Each opera includes a list of the characters, description of the prominent scenes, comments on the general character of the music and about 300 of the leading airs and motives in the musical notation. As an aid to the reader, the story of each opera is given in act-by-act, scene-by-scene detail. A series of biographical notes on the composers has been included.

 

The most outstanding feature of the book are the 100 superb illustrations by Tenggren, carefully prepared after painstaking research in order to ensure absolute authenticity.
