description -

An illustrated narrative of the Burke and Wills expedition, which intended to cross Australia. A compelling historical narrative of the Burke and Wills Expedition, led by Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills, which occurred in 1860 to 1861. This expedition intended to cross Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria, but due to poor weather and monsoon rains, the relief depot of Cooper's Creek had been abandoned. Both Burke and Willis perished along with five other men, and only one explorer, Irish soldier John King, made it alive back to Melbourne.
