Today, when shanghaiing is only a story depicted in a book or shown on a cinema screen, few people realize that it was a common practice in the early days of seafaring; that the cruelty the brutality of man's inhumanity to man was an actuality.  Wind-jammers, which spawned those awful practices of shanghaiing, and familiar only to those who lived at the turn of the century.
