Description -

From Preface, "No apology is deemed necessary for the publication of a new work on the Parables contained in the Gospels. Books of a devotional or homiletical character on some or all of these abound; but of works of a more elaborate and critical description on the subject, the number in the English tongue is small. Without disparagement to such as exist, it is believed that a fresh attempt to unfold in a scholarly yet genial manner the didactic significance of these beautiful sayings of our Lord will not be unwelcome. How far the present publication supplies what is wanted it is for others to judge."

This ambitious effort is presented in three Books [all contained in this one book]. Book I, Theoretic Parables, explores such as "The Mustard Seed and the Leaven", "The Blade, the Ear, and the Full Corn", and "The Parable of Extra Service". Book Two, The Parables of Grace, analyzes, among others, "The Two Debtors", "The Unjust Steward", and "Dives and Lazarus, and the Unmerciful Servant". Finally, Book Three, The Parables of Judgment, discusses such as "The Barren Fig-Tree", "The Two Sons", "The Unfaithful Upper Servant", and "The Ten Virgins". Also included are Contents pages and "Table of the Parables Considered in This Work"(totaling some 33), and, additionally, eight(8) of what the author refers to as "Parable-Germs"(for example, "The New Patch on the Worn Garment", "The Rejected Stone", "The Waiting Servants", and "The Wise and Foolish Builders". This is one of those quite special offerings, especially for those who maintain an ongoing interest and/or use in these compelling "teaching moments" employed by Jesus throughout his ministering while on this earth. Thank you very much!!.
