The Piper story begins with the activities of brothers Gilbert and Gordon Taylor of Rochester, New York, in 1928. As almost all others who hoped to become commercial airplane builders during the 1920's, the Taylors had been earning an uncertain living barnstorming. That nomadic existence was expiring - mostly of malnutrition - and experiences with World War I surplus airplanes suggested design improvements that encouraged many ex-barnstormers, including the Taylor brothers, to produce more practical machines for the booming personal airplan market...
